The Check-Host Info tool provides deep-level reconnaissance on any IPv4/IPv6 address or fully qualified domain name. By aggregating data from global BGP routing tables, Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), and active WHOIS databases, engineers can instantly map the physical and logical infrastructure of a target host.
Geolocation and ASN Routing
Every public IP address is routed through an Autonomous System Number (ASN). This tool extracts the exact ASN, identifying the underlying Internet Service Provider (ISP) or transit network managing the traffic. Coupled with geographical coordinate mapping, it allows administrators to pinpoint the server's physical location down to the regional datacenter level.
Proxy, VPN, and Datacenter Detection
Network security teams utilize this profiling for connection validation. The tool cross-references IP blocks to flag whether a host is operating from a known commercial datacenter (such as AWS, Hetzner, or Cloudflare) or if it is masked behind a privacy network, VPN, or proxy server. This is a fundamental step in fraud prevention, botnet detection, and incident response.
WHOIS and Abuse Investigations
When investigating malicious network activity, DNS hijacking, or researching domain ownership, querying the WHOIS registry is standard protocol. This interface communicates directly with authoritative registrars (like Verisign or local ccTLD operators) to fetch raw domain registration data, expiration timestamps, domain lock statuses (e.g., clientTransferProhibited), and official abuse contact emails for submitting DMCA or spam reports.
